Professor Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa’i, OON
Chair, Board of Trustees
Professor Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa’i, born on February 19, 1959, in Ringim, Jigawa State, is a distinguished academic and former Minister of Education in Nigeria. She is the first female professor from North West Nigeria and specializes in Curriculum Studies at Bayero University Kano. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Bayero University Kano and a Doctor of Education from West Virginia University in 1991. A Chevening Fellow at University College London in 2006, she has made significant contributions to education policy and reform in Nigeria.
As Nigeria’s Honourable Minister of Education (2010–2013), Professor Rufa’i introduced transformative policies, including the 4-Year Strategic Plan for Education Development, which focused on access, quality, teacher training, funding, and technical education. During her tenure, she oversaw the establishment of 12 new federal universities, initiatives to support girl-child education, the Almajiri Education Program, and the Boys’ Dropout Program. She also played a key role in amending the Education Tax Act, leading to the establishment of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
Professor Rufa’i has served in various leadership roles, including Commissioner for Health and Commissioner for Education in Jigawa State, chair of the African Union’s Conference of Education Ministers (COMEDAF), and head of the E-9 group for global literacy initiatives. She also coordinated Nigeria’s membership in the Global Partnership for Education, securing a $100 million grant for education development in northern Nigeria.
With over 30 publications and numerous awards, including the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), she remains an advocate for equitable education, teacher development, and policy innovation. She has also contributed to critical projects such as the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS) for Nigerian universities.
Professor Rufa’i is married with children and grandchildren, and her legacy continues to inspire educational development in Nigeria and beyond.
Abdullahi Ibrahim

Abdullahi Ibrahim was appointed to the Board of Directors of FirstBank in 2017 as an Executive Director. He led the banks Public Sector and Retail Banking, North businesses of the bank. He also held other executive roles in the bank, including Group Executive, Retail Banking North, from 2016 to 2017 and from 2012 to 2015, respectively. He had also served as Group Executive, Technology and Services between 2015 and 2016, overseeing the Bank’s Information Technology and Services Functions.
Prior to joining FirstBank, he was the area manager and subsequently Group Head, Telecommunications, Information Technology and Transport Group in Corporate Banking at the then NAL Merchant Bank. He also worked at United Bank for Africa, where he left in 2001 as a Senior Manager in Corporate and Consumer Banking Directorate of the Bank.
Abdullahi’s banking experience of over 34 years cuts across investment, wholesale, and commercial banking as well as banking operations.
Abdullahi is an Honorary Senior Member, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (HCIB), and an Alumnus of Lagos Business School (Advanced Management Programme). In addition, he is an alumnus of Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he attended the Advanced Management Program apart from many other courses locally and abroad. He is also a member of the Institute of Directors (IoD).
Abdullahi is married with children and loves reading, photography, and horse riding.
He retired from the Board of Directors of FirstBank in April 2024
Ahmed Ibrahim

Ahmed Ibrahim is a seasoned consultant and government advisor with a career spanning nearly three decades. As a former Delivery Advisor at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (2020-2024), Ahmed played a pivotal role in shaping strategy, policy, and delivery frameworks for political leaders, leveraging technology to drive impactful outcomes. Part of this assignment was being a Project Coordinator at the Office of the Vice President, where he orchestrated high-stakes initiatives in the agribusiness sector.
Before his consultancy journey, Ahmed honed his expertise at Nigeria Security and Minting, where he developed a strong foundation in engineering, manufacturing, and project management. His extensive experience also covers construction, business development, and real estate, making him a versatile figure in his field.
Ahmed holds academic qualifications:
- Doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Liverpool (UK)
- Master’s in Engineering and Management from the University of Exeter (UK)
- Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in Kaduna State
His professional affiliations include registration with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria and membership in the Nigeria Society of Engineers.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Ahmed is an equestrian enthusiast and is dedicated to continuous personal and professional growth, with a passion for reading and lifelong learning. He is happily married and committed to both his family and his mission to drive positive change through his work.

Jamila Chaskda is the programme manager.
A graduate of law from university of jos an entrepreneur and a goal driven enthusiast.
She has acquired skills in planning, effective communication and programme management.
She is dedicated to creativity, self development and passionate about empowering to become self reliant.
Her role includes the conception of planning, execution, monitoring and evaluation of various initiatives of the foundation.
